Time away from work and church commitments is typically spent with family and friends.

Brethren members place great value on hospitality, hosting people at home, preparing meals for large groups, and creating welcoming spaces for extended family and visiting members from other communities.

Music also holds a special place in the Brethren community. Many members are accomplished singers and instrumentalists, and making music together is a regular feature of community gatherings.

Members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church will always seek to prioritise activities that strengthen family relationships and faith, and avoid distractions from God.

In practice, for some this sees church members choosing not to use television at all. Some may use television for educational purposes, and some members do watch the news or enjoy factual documentaries on the computer – depending on personal preference.

Individual preferences vary. The emphasis is on personal discernment rather than a blanket prohibition.

Brethren members use computers, smartphones, and tablets in their daily lives. This includes for work, education, and to stay connected with family and fellow members around the world.
